TikTok is giving the comments section a major upgrade
Anyone who uses TikTok knows that the comments are sometimes just as fun as the video itself. After all, the content doesn’t stop the moment you tap “Post.” Yet when creating content, brands often focus primarily on the video itself, even though it’s in the comments where conversations, new ideas, and sometimes even the next video take shape. TikTok is now building on this with new features for the comments section: voice comments, polls, photo carousels, and Live Photos.

Don't just ask for a response
We’re all familiar with posts that end with “What do you think? Let us know in the comments.” There’s nothing wrong with that in and of itself, but the new features make it possible to take things a step further. Naturally, this immediately gets us at Content Collectiv thinking: how can we make smart use of these new features for our clients?
For a restaurant, for example, we could run a poll to let followers choose which dish will make a temporary comeback on the menu. For a festival, we could have the community vote on two promotional activities. And for an interior design brand, we see opportunities, for instance, to have followers share photos of their own interiors in response to a video about a new trend.
Voice comments also open up a variety of possibilities. For example, a chef can use a voice comment to answer a question about a dish, a creator can respond personally to a follower, or someone from an organization can provide just a little more context than would fit in a written comment. This way, comments become something we can incorporate right from the concept development stage, rather than something that happens only after a post goes live.
What are the benefits of this?
For brands, these are interesting ways to generate more engagement around their content. You make it easier and more fun for followers to participate. Casting a vote, sharing a photo, or responding to a voice comment takes very little effort, but it does ensure that people are more actively engaged with the content. And the more people respond and interact with each other, the more engagement there is around a post.
At the same time, that interaction also provides valuable input. You can see what your target audience responds to, what questions they have, and what people are sharing on their own. You can then use that information to create new content. So comments aren’t just something that happens after you post—they’re something you can take into account even as you’re brainstorming content.
Of course, not every TikTok needs to include a poll, and we don’t have to use every new feature just because it’s new. But at Content Collectiv, we actually enjoy keeping up with and trying out these kinds of updates. That way, we stay informed ourselves and can help our clients explore the possibilities that can truly enhance their content.
